Dialectic Events
We have a lot of fun during the Dialectic years.

Dialectic School begins with the great initiation of all 7th graders and transfer students called Logic Boot Camp. During Logic Boot Camp students are divided into teams and are challenged to learn the Informal Fallacies. Some of the games involve being splattered with things like ketchup or chocolate pudding if you miss a fallacy. Eventually, students with elastic slingshots find themselves aiming water-balloons down a hill at their teachers. Each day teams compete in various games to test their knowledge and to earn points for their team. The month long process ends with a day of indoor rock climbing, as teams compete to see who will be crowned the champion.

Every other year families of Dialectic students enjoy the Family Field Trip. This four- or five-day trip involves special events for the entire family. Recent Family Field Trips have walked down Boston’s Freedom Trail, danced in the Governor’s Mansion at Colonial Williamsburg, and visited Plimoth Plantation and Salem, MassachusettsClick here to see where our families visited on the most recent family field trip to Charlottesville, VA.

Dialectic students also have fun dancing and singing. One annual dance at Veritas Academy is the Colonial Christmas Dance. After a few practices, students and parents dress in their finest colonial garb and take to the dance floor.

Students learn to fight with swords (wooden) as they read Prince Caspian, transform remote control cars into mechanical fighting machines as they read Frankenstein and set up their own government as they consider Rousseau’s Social Contract.
