We have a lot of fun at Veritas Academy. In grammar school there are many events that students and families enjoy and that help our students to love learning. Here is a description of a few of these events:
In Kindergarten students are knighted (girls are ceremonially made into Ladies) at the beginning of their work in the Phonics Museum. They also enjoy a tea party, a cookie bake and numerous local field trips as they learn about the history of Lancaster County.
In First Grade students enjoy learning about Pennsylvania history, dressing up like Indians and settlers. They also take their first major field trip to Philadelphia.
In Second Grade students have an Egyptian Feast in which they enjoy Egyptian foods dressed as Pharaohs and Princesses of Egypt. They also venture to the Egyptian Exhibit at the University of Pennsylvania Museum Egyptian Exhibit.
In Third Grade students learn Greek and Roman History and put on the play “Zeus’s Family Reunion,” which introduces parents to the dysfunctional family of the Olympian gods. They also participate in their own version of the Olympic Games and blow up their own models of Mt. Vesuvius each year.
Fourth Grade studies Medieval History and enjoys field trips to the National Cathedral in Washington, D.C. They also read Beowulf and have a joyous celebration as Grendel is defeated. At the end of the year the Fourth Grade barbarians, armed with water balloons, attempt to take a fort from Third Grade (Roman) defenders.
Fifth graders enjoy the Swiss Family Robinson Cookout, trips to Washington, D.C., Mount Vernon, and Baltimore, plus the historic sites in Philadelphia and many of the Revolutionary War battlefields.
Sixth grade at Veritas Academy also has exceptional events. As the students learn about the War between the States, they travel to the Gettysburg Battlefield. They also have fun at the Cowboy Cookout and make their own root beer.
