Choirs

With the exception of kindergarten, all Veritas students have the opportunity to sing in a performing choir.

  • Bel Canto Singers (Italian for “beautiful song”) is a group of first and second grade students.
  • Jubilate Choir (Latin for “rejoice”) is a group of third, fourth, fifth and sixth grade students.
  • Camerata Choir (a term coined in Florence in the 16th century to name a group of musicians and poets who met regularly to discuss trends in the arts) is the performing choir of seventh, eighth and ninth grade students. Acceptance in this group is by audition and invitation.  The remaining Logic-aged students participate in a training choir.
  • Chamber Choir is an auditioned group of Rhetoric Students – tenth, eleventh and twelfth grades.

Additionally, the Male Chorus performs at the two major concerts each year. This boisterous and fun-loving group includes male choir students and Veritas fathers and male, Veritas teachers.

All choirs perform at the annual Christmas Concert and Spring Concert along with the Instrumental Ensemble.

In addition to the main concerts, the Jubilate, Camerata and Chamber Choirs perform locally. They have sung at Landis Valley Museum, Hamilton Club and Lancaster Country Club, as well as many retirement homes and service organizations in the area. They also have all participated in many church services locally as well as in other cities. The choirs have enjoyed field trips to Lancaster City, New York City, Baltimore, and Philadelphia.

In addition to traditional performances, Logic and Rhetoric choir students  prepare for the annual Madrigal Feast held in February.

A Madrigal Feast is a reenactment of the feasting and entertainment nobility would have enjoyed in the Renaissance time period. Near authenticity is accomplished in the royal banquet fare and ornate costuming as well as beautiful song and enchanting dance. Along with the King and Queen and his court, the feast boasts jugglers, beggars and musicians as they mingle with the guests. No court would be complete without the jovial jester who is at the King’s beck and call for comic entertainment.

The Madrigal Feast is one of Veritas’ events where students, parents and teachers enjoy performing and working together. Parents and teachers are costumed and prepared to perform as serfs as they serve the magnificent fare to the guests.
