After learning the basic facts in Grammar School, students are ready to use those basic facts to learn new skills. In Logic School, 7th through 9th grades, students study the art of thinking clearly and are taught to recognize wrong thinking and bad arguments. They do this by learning formal and informal logic and by considering many different arguments to recognize logical fallacies. They study the logic of math in subjects like Algebra and Geometry and they learn inductive thinking by doing experiments in Science. They study Latin and Greek—learning to translate the New Testament. They also begin their study of Omnibus in which Veritas Academy students read through the Great Books of Western Civilization and discuss and argue about the great issues of theology, history and literature.
After studying how to think clearly, the final step in a classical Christian education is to learn to present the truth that you have learned persuasively and winsomely. Students at Veritas Academy do this in Rhetoric School, 10th through 12th grade. During these years, students study rhetoric and learn to speak and write persuasively. This process culminates in the production of a Senior Thesis which students have to defend before a panel of the school’s faculty and other experts. This tests each student’s ability to write and speak well. They also have the opportunity to take modern foreign languages and a number of electives in the arts, humanities and sciences.
