The simplest way to make a gift of stock (or other negotiable securities) is to contact your broker and request that shares be transferred from your account to Veritas Academy's account at PNC Bank. To execute an electronic stock transfer, please follow these steps:

1. Contact the Development Office to let us know that you plan to make a stock gift.

(Phone: 717-556-0690; Fax: 717-556-0736;   rspykstra@veritasacademy.com)

2. Provide us with your name, contact information, the name of the stock, and the number of shares you are donating.

3. Instruct your broker to transfer the stock electronically to Veritas Academy.  Please contact us for our bank information.

Stock Gift: Certificates

If you prefer to donate securities held in physical form, please send the certificate to our address below, and we will forward it to PNC Bank. You may need to complete and sign the back of the certificate first.

In most cases, the date on the confirmation of sale will coincide with the date that the shares were received by Veritas Academy. However, there may be a delay, which is why we recommend that the market value should be determined in cooperation with your tax preparer for income tax purposes. Unless instructed otherwise, we will sell the shares as soon as they are received.

IRA Qualified Charitable Distribution

It is possible for individuals 70 1/2 to make an IRA withdrawal directly from their IRA to a non-profit with significant tax benefit to that individual.  The following is from the IRS's Publication 590:

"A Qualified Charitable Distribution (QCD) is generally a nontaxable distribution made directly by the trustee of your IRA (other than a SEP or SIMPLE IRA) to an organization eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions. You must be at least age 70½ when the distribution was made. Also, you must have the same type of acknowledgement of your contribution that you would need to claim a deduction for a charitable contribution (see Records To Keep in Publication 526, Charitable Contributions.) The maximum annual exclusion for QCDs is $100,000. Any QCD in excess of the $100,000 exclusion limit is included in income as any other distribution. If you file a joint return, your spouse can also have a QCD and exclude up to $100,000. The amount of the QCD is limited to the amount of the distribution that would otherwise be included in income. If your IRA includes nondeductible contributions, the distribution is first considered to be paid out of otherwise taxable income."

If you are interested in such a distribution to Veritas Academy, please check with your tax account regarding the necessary forms and tax implications.
