BOYS BASKETBALL | Veritas Academy | Classical Christian SchoolVeritas Academy’s boys head basketball coach is Chris Weibel. Chris graduated in 2009 from Houghton College in Houghton, New York. He majored in Physical Fitness and minored in Psychology. He played basketball for Plumstead Christian School, briefly at Houghton College, and has done individual coaching for players looking to walk on to college teams since graduating.

Shaquan Mack, or “Shaq Mack,” as he is affectionately known, was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He played basketball in high school at Mariana Bracetti Academy Charter School. He graduated from Lancaster Bible College with his Bachelors in Sport Management in Spring of 2018. He is also a member of the United States Army, in the 1-111th infantry division.

Veritas has girls basketball for middle school, junior high, and high school. The season runs from November 19 through the 3rd week of February. Home games will be played at the Spooky Nook Sports Complex.

Our Varsity Lady Monarchs basketball coach is Dr. Daniel Spanjer.

Dan spanjerDaniel Spanjer graduated from Nyack College with a BA in History and from Reformed Theological Seminary (Orlando) with a MA Theology. He earned his Ph.D. in History from the University at Albany, SUNY in April 2016. Dan was ranked in New York state as a basketball player during high school in addition to playing varsity baseball and varsity soccer. He went on to play baseball for Nyack College as well as men’s volleyball. After Seminary, in 1996, Dan returned to his high school alma mater to serve as teacher and to coach girls soccer and boys baseball. In the fall of 1998 he took over the Chapel Field Schools girls JV soccer team and after two years earned enough wins to move the team to varsity in the public school league, the OCL, as a class D school. Between 2000 and 2006 the Chapel Field Schools Varsity Girls Soccer team was ranked 2ndin its section and competed for the section title twice, it would go on to win the section title in 2007. Between 2000 and 2006, Dan also served as the JV girls basketball coach under Michael Bonagura. He coached the boys varsity baseball team from 1998 to 2006 bringing the team to multiple sectional championship games. Dan has also run soccer and basketball camps for independent organizations. He is married to Tara Spanjer and they have three daughters: Meghan, Emily, and Katelyn.
